A Message From Dean: A Comfortable New Store
“Comfortable” means different things to each of us. What is the first thing you think of when someone asks, “What makes you feel comfortable?” Perhaps it’s a favorite sweatshirt, a certain pair of jeans, or maybe those cozy slippers. What about comfortable places? Is there a restaurant you frequent because you enjoy their food and atmosphere or a certain place you shop first when looking for that special gift? We all have these places, but have you ever thought about what draws you to them? Why do you honor them with your business and loyalty over another? At some point in time, that favorite place was new to you. What made you go there? Was it the quality of products or the special prices being offered? What made you return time and again? Beyond the product or the price, I think it is how welcome the people made you feel. They consistently care for your needs. Every customer who comes through the doors of our new Bangerter Crossing store already has a place they shop for groceries. Odds are it is already comfortable for them to shop there. Why should they change their habits and shop with us? Aside from offering quality products in a state of the art building or a better price on something they regularly purchase, perhaps there is only one thing that can really make a difference to those new customers. That difference is how we treat them. How hard are we willing to work to make them feel comfortable in this new and strange store? We must turn our attention from all the new equipment, fixtures, and products to our new customers. The people who come through our doors need to feel comfortable and know they are appreciated and cared for. We need to help each other remember to pay attention to these new people who will visit this new store, shop with us, and honor us with their business. How can we achieve this when we don’t know who they are? We must take the opportunity to talk to them, share our knowledge, and ask them how we can best meet their needs. What are their likes and dislikes? What are their expectations and how can we exceed them? I am very confident that the Bangerter Crossing team will make this happen. The comment I hear most from our customers is that they truly appreciate the great team of Harmons Associates who are always friendly and helpful. I would like to thank each and every associate who has worked so hard for this company and helped to make this new store a reality.
