Good Luck Chef Adalberto at the National Pastry Chef of the Year Competition!
Chef Adalberto Diaz, Harmons executive pastry chef and cooking school instructor, will be competing this upcoming Sunday for the title National Pastry Chef of the Year at the American Culinary Federation national convention.The chefs will be judged on flavor, creativity, organization, cleanliness, techniques, and execution within the allot time.
Chef Al was chosen as the Western Region Pasty Chef of the Year back in March and will compete against the three other regional winners in Orlando on Sunday. The chefs will have only 2 1/2 hours to create and serve a hot dessert, a cold dessert, and build a two foot tall sugar-chocolate sculpture. While he can’t disclose what he will be creating, he did give us a hint that he will be basing his creations on the movie Avatar for the competition’s Hollywood theme. Chef Al has been preparing for months, practicing during every free moment.
Besides the $5000 prize, Chef Al is competing for some major bragging rights. Chef Al is the first chef from Utah to compete for National Pastry Chef of the Year.
