Why does the cashier bag my produce?

We want your produce to make it home safely and one way of ensuring that happens is to handle it as little as possible. Our cashiers take the time to carefully handle and bag your produce and set it aside to avoid being damaged by other items. Having our cashiers handle your produce also allows them to easily identify and keep separate your organic and conventional produce purchases.

The word "Artisan" is associated with some bread from the Bakery and other food items around the store. What does that mean?

According to "Food Lover's Companion"[1], artisan or artisanal: "This term implies that a food or beverage has been primarily handmade and produced in small batches by traditional, predominantly non-mechanical methods. Superior fresh, natural and local ingredients and attention to detail and excellence are all part of the artisan tradition. This results in products that resound of homemade goodness and quality. Among the many artisanal creations found in markets today are breads, cheeses, jams, oils sausages and vinegars." We take great care, and pride, in making sure our artisan selections meet these criteria and are of superb quality.
