Special Olympics Utah
Harmons is proud to be a presenting sponsor for Special Olympics Utah. We've been partnering with this great organization for 18 now years to help raise money to support Special Olympics athletes in our communities. We are also very proud to have a number of Special Olympics athletes as Harmons associates.
Started in 1969, a year after the first International Special Olympics Games, Special Olympics Utah now promotes more than 2,200 athletes across the state. These amazing athletes compete throughout the year at 45 area level events, 6 state level events, and many go on to compete at the national and international level. Harmons is the presenting sponsor of the annual Summer Games, with Bob and Randy kicking off the excitement at the opening ceremonies.
Every year during the month of March, Harmons and Special Olympics Utah join forces to promote National Frozen Food Month. Harmons donates a portion of frozen food sales during this time and receives incredible support from the vendor community. Harmons also hosts an annual charity golf tournament in St. George, with more than $58,219 raised at the event in 2011. Harmons' customers always have the greatest impact during the month-long promotion with tremendous contributions through icons purchased at checkout and enjoying root beer floats made by local athletes.
One hundred percent of the funds raised during March Frozen Food Month go directly to Special Olympics Utah. Funds raised for Special Olympics Utah goes towards year round sports training, competition participation, local and state events, as well as health and wellness programs and screenings. Money raised by individual teams during the in-store weekly root beer float sales stays with those teams to help pay for their uniforms, equipment and travel expenses.
