World Oceans Day is June 8, and eating sustainable seafood is one simple way you can celebrate. Harmons is a partner with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch to bring us one step closer to creating healthy oceans!

What is sustainable seafood? Sustainable seafood refers to fish and other seafood that have been caught or farmed in ways not harmful to the environment. Monterey Bay Aquarium has made an easy way to identify which fish are sustainable through their Seafood Watch program. Monterey Bay has categorized different types of seafood into three categories: Best Choices, what you should buy first; Good Alternatives, seafood that’s okay to buy, but there are concerns with the way it was caught or farmed; and Avoid, seafood you shouldn’t buy because it harms other sea creatures or the environment.

We’re celebrating World Oceans Day by continuing to work toward healthy oceans and encouraging sustainable seafood practices. Every Harmons location is part of the Seafood Watch program and tries to only purchase Best Choice and Good Alternatives seafood.

Find great sustainable seafood options at every Harmons location and start helping us and Monterey Bay toward healthy oceans! For more information download the Seafood Watch app or check out their website.
