The Benefits of a Flu Shot During Pregnancy

October 18, 2019

At Harmons, living happy and healthy is one of our values. Now that flu season is upon us again, we’re working to provide the best for our guests and understand that, for expecting mothers, flu season can be more than just an inconvenience. That’s why we’re sharing some of the benefits to getting a flu shot during your pregnancy.

The biggest benefit to getting your flu shot is that it is a safe and effective way to provide protection against the flu. Because flu vaccines are made with inactive viruses or even without flu viruses at all, the vaccine is safe and helps protect you against the flu during and after your pregnancy.

This protection lowers your risk of hospitalization from the flu or flu complications by an average of 40%—which is another great benefit. While lowering your risk and introducing antibodies to prevent the flu into your system, you’re doing the same for your baby—even after they’re born! According to the CDC, getting your flu shot during your pregnancy reduces the risk of hospitalization in babies less than 6 months old by an average of 72%.

Flu shots are available at all Harmons locations, except Emigration Market. No appointments are necessary, and—with most insurance providers—there’s no copay! This year, stay healthy with help from Harmons.
