Welcome to the fourth episode of the Taste of Harmons podcast! This week we met with Chef Aaron and Dietitian Jonnell to talk about cooking oils. We’re answering the question: Why does what oil you cook with matter?
Every oil has a different smoke point which makes different oils perfect for different cooking methods. But what is a smoke point? It’s the temperature at which the oil stops shimmering and starts to burn. One of the most popular cooking oils is olive oil because, unless it’s extra-virgin olive oil, it has a smoke point of 465°-470°.
There are also an assortment of health benefits to cooking with oils at or below their smoke points! For more information, check out our Cooking with Oils brochure—found in the oil aisle at every Harmons.
