Have you explored the produce department lately? Our exotic produce section has some delicious fruit to pick from- one option being passion fruit! Here are some quick tips and tricks for using fresh passion fruit:

Flavor: Lemon-y, sweet and tart.

Texture:Thick skin with inner seeds that are surrounded by a jelly-like pulp.

How to select: The skin around passion fruit wrinkles as it ripens. Choose fragrant, shriveled, wrinkled fruit that is rich in color.

Storage: Once ripe, store in a plastic bag in the fridge for up to 7 days.

Seasonality: Year-round.

Cut fruit in half, scoop out inner seeds and flesh with a spoon and enjoy! Use it in vinaigrettes, as a topping for desserts, or blend into beverages.

Cooking techniques: Raw or pureed.

Flavor pairings:

  • Protein: chicken, fish, macadamia nuts
  • Salads: fruit or salad dressings
  • Produce: bananas, kiwi, mangoes, pineapples, strawberries
  • Sweets: ice cream, caramel
