- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp Honest John Orange Bitters
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 Tbsp butter, divided , or more as needed
- 6 slices (1-inch thick) dry challah bread
- 1/4 cup butter
- 6 Tbsp maple syrup , or more to taste
Whisk milk, eggs, Honest John orange bitters, sugar, nutmeg, and salt together in a bowl.
Heat 1 1/2 teaspoons butter in a skillet over medium heat. Working in batches, dip each slice of challah bread in the egg mixture and cook in the hot butter until golden, 2 to 3 minutes per side, adding more butter as needed. Transfer French toast to a plate and tent with foil.
Top each slice with 1 tablespoon maple syrup. Enjoy!
