INGREDIENTS:
- 2 lb ground chuck or sirloin (85 percent lean)
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 4 oz sharp cheddar cut into cubes
- 8 hamburger buns
- 8-16 sliced tomatoes
- 8 lettuce leaves
- Ketchup
- Mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS:
Heat a grill pan or grill over medium-high heat. Lightly spray with cooking oil.
Meanwhile, liberally season ground beef with salt and pepper and mix to combine. Form 1 patty. Make an indent in center, add 3-4 cubes cheese, top with a small amount of beef and seal. Repeat with remaining beef and cheese.
Place beef patties on grill and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Flip and continue to cook until desired doneness, about 5 more minutes for medium-rare.
Transfer to a plate and let the meat rest. Toast buns and serve hamburgers with tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup or mayonnaise.
