Whatever workout or exercise you choose, making the right choices for both pre- and post-workout fueling can make all the difference.
Dietitian Sarah points out that you don’t have to adopt a drastic workout routine. She suggests finding hobbies that are fun and provide exercise, whether it’s riding a bike, walking your dog, rock climbing, or whatever gets you moving. The key is to find something you enjoy that will make your exercise a sustainable habit.
Before a workout it’s best to eat easy-to-digest carbohydrates. Pre-workout is not the time to try something new. And do you need sports drinks or is plain water better? Is pickle juice really a good choice, and why would you drink chocolate milk?

Have you considered the humble potato for your sports fueling? Dietitian Sarah suggests adding this form of carbohydrates to your menu. You like a little flavor with your water? Dietitian Heather offers a look at the different forms and what will work the best for you. She also explores the importance of salt and sweat.
The best way to survive winter sports is to plan for snacks, and we have some great suggestions here, along with tips for staying hydrated even though it’s cold. And make sure you have plenty of packable snacks, a must for activities on the go.
