Hummus Where the Heart Is

At the end of March, five new hummus flavors will join original Harmons varieties, Traditional, Roasted Red Pepper, Chile Lime, and Basil Pesto. Beet Balsamic, Black Bean Lime, Chipotle, Curry, and Lemon Turmeric will be added to the hummus lineup.

Traditionally a smooth blend of cooked chickpeas (garbanzo beans), sesame paste (tahini), garlic, lemon, salt, and olive oil, hummus has been a Middle East staple for centuries. Known for its dietary fiber, protein, vitamin B6, and manganese, this earth-toned dip is traditionally accompanied by pita bread.

In America, we’ve whole-heartedly adopted hummus and serve it with a variety of vegetables and scoopable breads and crackers as an appetizer, snack, or side to a meal. In 2013, our Harmons chefs took that traditional hummus and also crafted Roasted Red Pepper, Chile Lime, and Basil Pesto flavors. As the popularity of hummus has continued to grow, our chefs created the following new hummus varieties:

Beet Balsamic: Slightly sweet with a tangy undernote, pairs well with sea salt crackers, celery, naan, and pita

Black Bean Lime: Savory and bright, enjoy with tortilla chips, sweet baby bell peppers, jicama, cucumbers, carrots, celery, and crostini

Chipotle: Zesty with bite of spice, pair with pita chips, naan, tortillas and tortilla chips, cucumbers, jicama, carrots, celery, and crostini

Curry: Exotic and deep, enjoy with cauliflower, pita chips, naan, tortillas and tortilla chips, cucumbers, jicama, carrots, and celery

Lemon Turmeric: Earthy and citrus flavors complement sugar snap peas, blanched asparagus, sesame crackers, and crostini

Each 9 oz. hummus container retails for $3.99 and is available at all of Harmons 19 locations.
