The apothecary, with gnarled hands, Measures out secrets in pinches and drams, Brewing elixirs of moonlight and dew, Each sip a portal to realms unknown.

And as the teapot pours stories into cups, The apothecary leans in, eyes alight, For in this quiet ritual, magic stirs, And tea becomes a potion for the soul.

Sneaky Tiki Tropical Getaway

Ready for change of culinary scenery? Join us for a taste of the tropics and a class that’s sure to warm you up inside!

Tiki culture began with Ernest Gantt who, at a very young age, already wandered to many parts of the world. He went from the vibrant islands of the Caribbean to the distant waters of South Pacific and beyond. He immersed himself in the cultures and traditions and came back to the States with a suitcase full of exotic souvenirs and an extensive knowledge of the far-away lands. This was something most Americans could only dream of.

Inspired by his adventures, he opened a small restaurant/bar, tossed in some of his exotic finds and served the hungry guests a little stir-fry. But, what made his bar stand out—aside from the uniqueness of it—were his cocktail creations. Everything he learned about imbibing, mixing and layering, he used to create extraordinary cocktails at his place, Don’s Beachcomber Café, later named Don the Beachcomber. Join Chefs Jake and Maybel as they guide you through some of Don The Beachcomber’s best known recipes, perfect for a summer night!

Mythical Greek Eats

Greek food in North America has been reinterpreted to meet North American expectations of a food richer in meat and dairy. For instance, Greek Salad is called Horiatiki in Greece. While in Greece the salad has feta and cucumber, it doesn’t have lettuce in it — only the North American version of the salad does (usually iceberg). Greek cooking is ingredient-based, as opposed to French cooking, which is technique based. And of course, for thousands of years, the prime ingredients in Greek food have remained olive oil, grains (wheat and barley) and wine. Join Chefs Jake and Sous Chef Maybel as they take you on this culinary adventure through the classic flavors of Greek cuisine.
